Who's the Weirdo? is a daily game built by SideRoad. This page explains, in plain language, what the game collects and what happens to it. You never have to give us your real name, and email is optional.
What we collect when you play
- Your answers and guesses. Each yes-or-no answer and each guess is saved with a random ID created on your device. Your answers are added to the crowd totals that other players guess against.
- Your score and results, calculated from those answers and guesses.
- Votes on tomorrow's questions and any questions you suggest. If you're on the leaderboard, a suggested question may be credited to your handle.
What you tell us when you finish a game
- A nickname (required). It appears publicly on the daily and weekly leaderboards next to your score and how weird you were. It doesn't need to be your real name.
- Your email address (optional). We use it to send the daily results email and to contact you if you win a prize. It's never shown on the site.
- Your X or Instagram handle (optional). It appears on the leaderboard with your nickname. Daily and weekly winners, the weirdo of the day or week, and the lowest score may be tagged in posts on X and Instagram.
Your weekly total is tracked by your email if you gave one, otherwise by the random ID on your device.
Who handles the data
- Netlify hosts the game and stores game data.
- beehiiv stores your email and handle and sends the daily email, as part of the SideRoad publication.
- Google Analytics measures how people use the site, like page views and when a game is started or finished. It uses cookies and collects information such as your browser, device type, and approximate location. We don't send your email or handle to Google.
We don't sell your information.
What's stored on your device
The game uses your browser's local storage to remember your random player ID, your progress in today's game, and the nickname, email, and handle you entered, so they're filled in for you next time. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Your choices
- Leave the email field blank, and we never get your email.
- Unsubscribe from the daily email any time using the link at the bottom of every email.
- Block or limit Google Analytics with your browser's privacy settings or an ad blocker.
- Ask us to remove you from a leaderboard, or to delete your email and handle, by replying to any email from us.
How long we keep it
Game results and leaderboards are kept so past results stay viewable. Your email stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
Kids
The game isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect email addresses from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
